MYP Language Acquisition Spanish Years 4/5 (9-10th)

The purpose of this course is to provide students with an alternative method of communication, insights into various cultures and encouragement to function effectively within those cultures. Students will explore areas of communication common to their own lives, by investigating such topics as pastimes, professions, jobs, ambitions, asking/giving directions, city, travel, schedule, money, restaurants/menus, house, etc. Also, students will study more profound grammar concepts: preterit tense of all verbs, imperfect tense, formal and informal commands, direct and indirect object pronouns, reflexive pronouns. After investigation and discovery, students are expected to apply their knowledge to given situations in order to demonstrate their ability to communicate in the target language both orally and in written form.

Through their investigation, discovery, and application, students will focus on grammatical structure, vocabulary and cultural identity.

The learning associated with Language B should also lead to a close understanding of the fundamental concepts of the MYP: Holistic learning, Intercultural Awareness and Communication.
