Personal Project Information

During their sophomore year at Lamar Academy, IB MYP students will have the opportunity to explore an area of their interest through a Personal Project. This student-centered project is "designed as an independent learning experience of approximately 25 hours." Through the personal Personal Project, students will "connect classroom learning engagements with personal experience... and develop their own interests for lifelong learning." (MYP Programme Subject Brief)

The students will research, report (3000-4000 words) and present on their personal project. Students may begin at the end of the freshman year, and the project will be due in the winter of their sophomore year.  Students will submit a product, a process journal, and a written report for the personal project.  They will have a faculty mentor who will offer suggestions and assess the project based on established criteria and deadlines. Public presentations of the personal project take place in the spring of the sophomore year.

Below, you will find the Lamar Academy IB MYP Personal Project Handbook updated in 2017. Students will work to complete this project outside of class time, but they will receive guidance through their English II class as well as from their faculty mentors.
