What is IB?

The International Baccalaureate Programme provides an educational program for all grade levels.
This global programme offers an international curriculum with a focus on the intellectual, social, emotional and personal development of the student.

IB offers four programmes of study, of which McAllen ISD offers three.
The Primary Years Programme serves grades 1-5.  The Middle Years Programme serves grades 6-10.  The Diploma Programme serves grades 11-12.
McAllen ISD offers the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, and Diploma Programme in five schools district-wide. These IB schools are Perez Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Alvarez Elementary, De Leon Middle School, and Lamar Academy. Any McAllen ISD or outside of the school district student may choose to attend the IB schools within MISD.

Lamar Academy is home to an authorized Middle Years Programme for years 4-5 (grades 9-10) and an authorized Diploma Programme (grades 11-12).
Lamar Academy offers a full Diploma Programme, requiring students to take six IB courses, complete a 4,000 word Extended Essay, take a Theory of Knowledge course, and complete a Creativity, Action, Service program.
